NEW YORK, NY — The Upper East Side is alive this week with the jealous side-eyes and victory dances of a thousand local tiger moms as they browse Niche.com's annual list of the best private schools in America — slowly becoming the go-to ranking of its kind.
In New York City, the nation's epicenter of private-school hysteria, the 2017 list doesn't stray too far from last year's— with a few exceptions.
For example, the Collegiate School on the Upper West Side, last year's No. 1 private high school in NYC, gets knocked down three spots to No. 4 this year – bested by the Horace Mann School in the Bronx, which now holds the No. 1 spot; the Trinity School, up five spots from last year at No. 2; and the Dalton School, also up five spots from last year at No. 3.
The rankings are "based on rigorous analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education along with test scores, college data, and ratings collected from millions of Niche users," according to Niche.com. (Still skeptical? You can pick apart the site's full methodology here.)
Below, we've listed all the NYC schools in the state's Top 100. The first list is just high schools. The second list is K-12.
Before all else, though, remember to breathe. Because no matter how good your kids' school is, they're not going to get far with a pair of hyperventilating parents who care too much about this type of thing.
